Laylia started Professionally performing in 1996 after studying with Hakan
Kaya & Selayma. Many have come to love her hard-core hip work, scimitar
dancing, and comical audience interaction. When she is not teaching workshops,
you can see her dancing at weddings, various Renaissance Festivals across
the US, or playing the bass drum in the Turkish touring band Turkana ~ last
featured in Canada and graced by the Turkish Ambassador presence.
1:15 - 2:15 Zenobia
Zenobia has performed on stages across the country, from San Francisco to
Atlanta. Before moving to the southeastern U.S., she performed professionally
for several years in Texas and was the featured dancer for the Middle Eastern
band Arabian Nights. Her repertoire of movements is drawn from traditional
dancers as well as contemporary artists. Having traveled extensively to study
with many widely known instructors, her primary influences are Karen Barbee
of San Antonio, and Delilah of Seattle. Zenobia’s trademark style is
created from a blend of Middle Eastern dance and contemporary culture, delighting
audiences with unusual perspectives and pushing the boundaries of the expected.
Classes during the Extravaganza will cover different ways of walking, and
stage presence in the context of a simple choreography.
